Superintendent Dr. Whitmarsh delivered a brief budget update, telling the board the General Assembly left session without a finalized state budget and a special session is scheduled to begin April 23. “General Assembly ended their session without agreeing on a budget,” he said, and added he had heard the raise could be as much as 4% though final numbers remain uncertain.
Whitmarsh explained that the county Board of Supervisors advertised a 3¢ tax increase to increase revenue but said the district is not expected to receive that funding directly; instead the county indicated it would provide resources covering a 3% salary increase and health-insurance cost increases, and the district may use one-time capital funds to bridge additional costs. The superintendent said the board should expect a formal budget vote at the next meeting once state and county actions are finalized.
