Deputy County Administrator Todd Kilduff updated the board on broadband deployment and state BEED funding during the May 13 meeting, reporting on contractor progress and connection metrics.
Kilduff said the county is tracking roughly 6,198 total passings under existing contracts and observing about a 30% take rate — meaning roughly 30% of homes passed have requested service so far. "There's about 6,198 total passings in their contract… at the moment, they're looking at about a 30% take rate," Kilduff said. He told the board AllPoints Broadband and BrightSpeed are making home connections and that recent private‑road and weather variables affect weekly connection totals.
On BEED funding, Kilduff said state contracts are being finalized: "contracts are literally being signed as we speak," and DHCD plans a searchable website showing provider assignments and timelines for individual addresses. He said the BEED program will add about 3,525 home passings in the county and that multiple providers (AllPoints, BrightSpeed, Comcast, Verizon, Starlink and others) are part of the combined deployment picture.
Board members asked about infill connections and homes built after grant awards; Kilduff said providers have allowed some flexibility, trading connection counts among areas and picking up homes built after the original contract in some cases. Kilduff invited constituents to report missed or misallocated addresses so staff and providers can reconcile coverage.
