A compromise proposed in the meeting would fund $500,000 to equipment and transfer roughly $240,000 from a special equipment fund to recreate the prior funding level, allowing some additional asphalt funding without entirely consuming reserves. Road & Bridge representatives warned that cutting equipment to boost asphalt spending would reduce the county’s ability to haul and complete projects on schedule. Commissioners asked staff to model scenarios showing how many lane miles each funding package would deliver and to return with exact equipment-replacement schedules.
No final appropriation was adopted; commissioners left program levels tentative pending two‑week follow-up.
