County staff reported that construction substantive completion and occupancy have been executed for the project, but internet connectivity remains in transition. Staff said DSL will service the facility temporarily and that BrightSpeed has committed to a fiber installation date no later than March 18.
"The go live date should be on or around March 18," a county representative told the court and said the copper was run and fiber line work remained to be completed. Commissioners discussed bandwidth concerns for day-to-day operations and whether DSL would suffice until fiber is available.
Commissioner Weddle said BrightSpeed representatives (named contacts were provided) could be brought into a Zoom meeting to clarify account assignments and billing; the court directed staff to gather clearer account and billing information and to convene BrightSpeed if needed. The court also discussed NextLink as a potential secondary provider for redundancy; staff will obtain buildout costs for NextLink to inform future decisions.
No formal contract action was taken at the meeting; staff will follow up with vendor briefings and return to the court with clarified account details.
