Court hears US DOT debrief, staff urged to resubmit split planning/implementation grant

The Coryell County Commissioners Court heard a debrief of a recent U.S. Department of Transportation application and advisors encouraged resubmission with revised documentation.

Miss Austin, a county staff member who led the debrief, told the court that Michael Littleman from US DOT recommended splitting the proposal into a two-legged application — separate planning and demonstration and implementation requests — and focusing applicant documentation on pedestrian and cyclist incidents instead of single-vehicle crashes. "We were encouraged to resubmit," she said, explaining that reviewers flagged some elements and suggested clearer documentation on how flooding contributes to safety challenges.

Court members discussed timing and asked staff to return with a plan for a revised submission. The county attorney noted the court needs to give clear direction if staff are to prepare a resubmission before late-March deadlines. The court did not take formal action at the meeting but recorded the debrief and directed staff to return with recommendations for next steps.
