City says Gilboa Ave site will be used as construction staging for downtown project; board asks for truck warnings

At a public hearing under New Hampshire RSA 674:54, the Planning Board heard from Public Works Director Don Lucero that the city intends to use vacant parcels on Gilboa Avenue and School Street (about 2.86 acres) as a temporary construction staging and storage area for the downtown infrastructure project.
Lucero said the contractor will store sand, gravel, pipe and precast structures on the site, use shipping containers for tools and materials, and locate a job trailer for project management. He estimated peak on-site numbers could reach "as many as 30 to 40" workers at one time, including contractor crews and subcontractors. Temporary chain-link fencing will be installed around the perimeter with a double-leaf gate at the existing driveway; staff recommended the fence be placed inside the vegetative buffer where possible.
Board members expressed concern about trucks interacting with a nearby bike trail and recommended signage or other measures to heighten awareness at the driveway; the board approved a nonbinding recommendation that the city increase public awareness that trucks will be entering and leaving the site. Lucero said the city will relay suggestions to the contractor and can add "trucks entering" signage if useful.
