Council OKs temporary late-closing permission for New Year’s Eve, requires police notice

The Burrillville Town Council approved a motion permitting Class B and Class D licensees to remain open until 3 a.m. on New Year’s Eve (Jan. 1, 2026), provided they notify the chief of police by Nov. 30, 2025. The motion also clarified that no intoxicating liquor shall be sold after 2 a.m. on New Year’s morning until the legal opening hour, and that no dancing is permitted after 3 a.m.
The chair read the conditions: licensees planning to remain open must notify Chief of Police Colonel Steven J. Lynch by Nov. 30, 2025. The motion was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. The council cited public-safety coordination with the police department as the reason for the notification requirement.
