Council approves $22,300 reappropriation to restore lighting at Burrillville High School tennis courts

Public works Director Jeffrey McCormick told the council that LED fixtures installed at the Burrillville High School tennis courts are not operating because the buried electrical service has deteriorated and needs replacement. He outlined a two-part cost: $14,000 in contract labor through the district’s existing contractors and an estimated $8,300 for wire and conduit materials.
After discussion about competing uses of the available CIP balance (including a proposed viewing plaza), Councilor Anderson moved to reappropriate $22,300 from an unused CIP fund originally for a pedestrian bridge to the tennis-court lighting restoration and to award work per the school contract. The motion was seconded and the council voted to approve the reappropriation and contract award. One councilor expressed concern that winter makes nighttime tennis unlikely for several months, but others noted that new lights sitting idle represented a wasted resource and supported getting the courts operational.
