Groves told the court that several bills in the Texas Legislature would require precinct-only voting and could force voters to return to their individual precinct locations. “Most people don't vote in their precinct. They vote somewhere else, somewhere close to work,” Groves said, arguing that removing countywide polling sites would increase confusion and costs because the county currently operates eight voting sites and would have to double personnel if forced to open 16 precinct locations.
Commissioner Matthews moved to approve the resolution and Commissioner Taylor seconded; the court recorded 'ayes' and the motion carried. Staff said the resolution will be circulated to the county’s state legislators and other counties considering similar measures.
