Board spotlights students and classified staff; Karina Duran named county classified employee of the year

The board dedicated a portion of the meeting to recognizing students, teachers and classified staff across district schools. Multiple students were called forward to receive medals and certificates, and trustees and administrators applauded their accomplishments.
District leaders singled out classified staff who were selected as county employees of the year and noted that two nominees will advance to state-level consideration. "Karina is our lead at Franklin Elementary School," one staff member said, describing her four years of service and noting she helps provide daily meals for students. The district cited Karina Duran's role coordinating roughly 500 breakfasts and lunches a day and praised her organization and dedication.
The board also presented spirit awards tied to core values (student focus, partnership, integrity, respect, innovation and teamwork) and recognized College Connection Academy as a distinguished school in the county.
