The Franklin-McKinley School District Board of Trustees voted to adopt resolution 2026‑11 authorizing the reduction or elimination of specified classified services due to lack of work or funds. The resolution lists two bilingual paraeducator positions (one 6‑hour Spanish dual‑language position and one 6‑hour Vietnamese dual‑language position) and one custodial supervisor post for potential reduction.
Dr. Hector Clyde, who introduced the item, told trustees the district was notifying the public and preparing to open negotiations and staffing adjustments. "It is recommended that the Board of Education adopt resolution number 20 26 dash 11, reduction or elimination of classified services for lack of work and or lack of funds," he said. Administration said affected employees would receive written notice and that the district would follow bumping and seniority rules; staff also said they expected to be able to place many impacted employees into other paraeducator positions at comparable pay.
Trustee Cooper pressed for stronger assurances for impacted employees, asking, "Do we have a guarantee that we can give those those employees that they will have another job, they will still be employed?" District staff responded that placement depends on bumping rights and seniority, and that "we will... try to ensure that we're able to get them in," noting presently available paraeducator vacancies. After discussion, the board approved the resolution by voice vote with four ayes and one nay from Trustee Cooper.
The action is preliminary and administration emphasized procedural protections: written notice of rights will be provided and placement will follow seniority and bumping processes. The board did not adopt additional guarantees beyond established labor‑agreement processes. The district identified the specific affected roles and said it would attempt internal placements where legally and procedurally allowed.
