Oak Ridge fire official reports surge in EMS calls, resumes cadet program

The Oak Ridge Fire Department told the Westfir City Council that emergency activity has spiked in recent months and the department logged 91 EMS calls in September.
Scott of the Oak Ridge Fire Department said the department "have had 91 EMS calls for September" and described a revived cadet program with seven Oak Ridge High School students participating alongside a 24-person firefighter 1 academy. He said the program historically fed roughly half of participants into full-time firefighting and paramedic roles. Council members asked whether local recruitment could be strengthened and discussed equipment needs; Scott said he will continue outreach and that the academy cohort includes mostly local recruits.
