Road and Bridge reports increase in illegal dumping; sheriff to help gather evidence

Road and Bridge supervisor Latham briefed the court on December operations and ongoing efforts to address illegal dumping across county roads.
Latham said crews logged 31 open service requests and completed routine maintenance including blading 15 roads and repairing a cattle guard. He described the county’s new effort to track larger illegal dumps separately from ordinary litter: "As of December, judge, we had ... 31 open service request," Latham said, noting crews had picked up large items — couches, tires and construction debris — at numerous locations.
Because most dumped loads lack identifying documentation, the county has coordinated with the sheriff's office to make limited work crews available two days each week to retrieve residential trash at a controlled location so staff can look for identifying mail or other records. Commissioners voiced support for combining maintenance efforts with prosecutorial coordination so any criminal dumping can be pursued by the appropriate office.
