Oak Ridge fire chief reports successful live‑fire training, new paramedic hire

The Oak Ridge Fire Department chief updated the Westfir City Council on Nov. 4, reporting that a live‑fire training at the end of the month “went very well” and involved about 24 participants.
“We did have a live fire training, at the end of the month, and it went very well. I think we had about 24 people that participated,” the chief said and added that the department’s academy had roughly doubled its training hours compared with the previous month.
The chief said the department has a new hire — “he’s a paramedic from up near Portland area” — who will start on Wednesday, and that he would forward activity reports for both September and October to the council. Councilors thanked the chief and asked that the written activity reports be made available so members can follow up on any items requiring further attention.
Councilors and staff did not take formal action based on the report but asked for the written activity summaries and noted appreciation for the department’s training efforts.
