The Commissioners of St. Mary's County voted July 28 to approve a resolution authorizing execution of a cable franchise agreement with Verizon Maryland LLC and empowered the commissioner president to sign related documents.
A county presenter said Verizon applied May 20 to operate and maintain a cable television system in portions of the county and that outreach included a July 14 public hearing and local newspaper notices. "Verizon Maryland LLC applied on May 20 to operate and maintain a cable television system within portions of Saint Mary's County," the presenter said, adding that initial service is being offered in Wildwood and Lexington Park and that Verizon plans to move south toward Point Lookout. Commissioners noted the agreement gives Verizon the option to serve the entire county, not just the initial pilot areas.
The board approved the resolution on a voice vote and directed the commissioner president to execute all related documents. County staff said the agreement will be administered like other franchise agreements and that a subsequent implementation schedule will follow through staff channels.
