Athletics director credits reassembled Umquah Valley League for reducing travel and boosting competition

District athletics staff reported to the board that the 2025—626 athletic year was a success and that reassembling the Umquah Valley League (UBL) helped reduce bus travel time and transportation costs.
The chair reported that 12 of the district's 16 sports earned state-level success during the year and said the UBL reassembly—bringing nearby schools back into a local league—cut student time on buses and improved competitive balance. "We have very substantially decreased the amount of time students are gonna spend on a bus and out of the classroom, which in turn also... saves the district a ton of money every year when it comes to transportation," the chair said.
Board members thanked athletics staff for scheduling work and noted that smaller travel distances should result in closer, more competitive games and fewer multi-hour trips for students. The board invited any questions from members and heard praise for the department's year.
