Brockway elementary outlines behavior supports, family engagement and reading improvements

Brockway elementary staff presented a year-end recap to the board highlighting four priority areas: behavior supports and skill building, collaboration and curriculum planning, family and community engagement, and instructional-assistant training and support.
Presenters described creating consistent family communication and individualized support plans so students who need short breaks can re-regulate and return to class with less disruption. The presentation emphasized professional learning communities (PLCs), use of a principal coach from Stanford (Dana Nirenberg) for instructional walk-throughs, and new intervention curriculum with aligned PD. On family engagement, Brockway resumed a booster club and hosted events such as dance nights, a craft night with Santa and a math night funded in part with Title I funds; staff reported distributing math activity packets to students who could not attend evening events.
Attendance and early literacy were also priorities. The presenters said the school added designated small-group math workshop time, implemented intervention curriculum, expanded early-literacy coaching, and planned next steps including maintaining behavior systems and improving direct skill reading instruction for new and returning teachers. The presentation closed with an invitation for board questions and an assurance that more data will be shared in future reports.
