Winston-Dillard board honors retirees, presents superintendent award to Douglas High student

The Winston-Dillard School District Board of Directors opened its regular session by recognizing multiple retirees and presenting a superintendent academic award.
Chair thanked Joanne (a long-serving teacher at Brockway and Douglas High), Christie Crawford (26 years in elementary education), and Karen Turner (five years as an English teacher) for their service. Coach and teacher who introduced the superintendent award praised the winner's record, saying, "She currently has a 3.91 GPA and is ranked number 9 in their class and will graduate in just a few short days." The recipient, introduced by staff, was celebrated for leadership on campus and plans to pursue nursing.
Sonal Pedersen delivered the DHS student report, noting school-year highlights including the Night of Excellence, cultural culinary contributions from students, spring athletics success, and reminders of senior deadlines: "Seniors will celebrate their final day of school on June 3 before walking across the stage at graduation on June 6," she said. Pedersen also thanked staff and peers for leadership opportunities during the year.
The board closed the segment with brief member remarks of thanks to retirees and encouragement for students as the school year ends. The meeting then moved into curriculum and operational items on the agenda.
