Lowell approves 2025–26 property and liability insurance renewal; premium up about 5%

Added to the agenda, the city’s 2025–26 property and liability insurance renewal was presented by City Administrator Max Baker and approved by the council on July 15. Baker said the renewal paperwork must be completed in May but the final bill arrives in July, creating timing challenges for formal council approval.
Baker said the renewal covers all city buildings, parks, vehicles and equipment and that the increase this year was approximately 5%, less than the 9% the city had budgeted. He added that the premium should decrease when Old City Hall is sold. Mayor Weathers moved to approve the renewal and Councilor Jimmy Murray seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
