Alicia Lindsey, chief administrative officer for the sheriff’s office, and jail maintenance manager Matthew Robinson said cracking concrete and loose tile were causing water to leak into lower floors and produce mold and mildew. “That’s when we decided to be proactive and get it taken care of before we had a real issue,” Robinson said, explaining the work began earlier in the year and has been completed.
Robinson said the department solicited four vendors under the emergency process and received only one responsive quote; purchasing staff explained emergency procurement does not require the same formal solicitation as a typical RFP when time is of the essence. Commissioners asked for follow‑up on why three vendors did not reply to the emergency request and asked purchasing to counsel local contractors about the emergency process so future local firms can respond. The item moves to the full commission with a favorable recommendation.
