The Okmulgee Board of Education voted unanimously March 10 to hire the Center for Education Law to represent the district. The motion, made by Mr. James and seconded by Ms. Jones, carried 4-0.
Board President Leroy Parker called the special session to order at 5:30 PM. The minutes record that Justin Cliburn of the Center for Education Law and district counsel Mark Rains were listed as attendees when the board approved retention of outside counsel. The motion authorizes the firm to represent the board in matters as the board directs; specific contract terms were not specified in the meeting minutes.
The board moved immediately into the scheduled dismissal due-process hearing after approving counsel. No public comment was recorded during the retention vote.
