Police Chief David Pernice updated the Union City Borough Council on Aug. 27, 2024, saying a candidate approved at the last meeting has not responded to contact attempts and the chief now assumes that candidate is no longer interested. He reported there are 32 candidates on the consortium list and that the department’s aim is to hire two part-time officers though only one position was authorized by council.
Pernice said he plans to contact the Civil Service Commission to set up oral exams and will send letters to prospective candidates. Council agreed to continue the search for one part-time officer. No formal motion or vote was recorded beyond the council’s agreement to proceed with hiring outreach.
