Maupin adopts city addendum to Wasco County Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan

The Maupin City Council unanimously accepted the Maupin addendum to the Wasco County Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan on Oct. 22.
City Manager Nick Smith told the council the addendum is a multijurisdictional document that inventories local natural hazards (countywide) and lists mitigation options. Smith said having the plan in place allows the city to apply for FEMA mitigation grants but does not obligate the city to carry out the listed options. Recorder Christine Wolfe said she revised and cleaned up the addendum in preparation for adoption. Councilor Randy Bechtol moved to accept the addendum and include it in the Wasco County plan; Councilor Shelby Dumire seconded and the motion passed 7-0.
The meeting minutes record that the city may pursue mitigation projects if funding becomes available; no specific projects or funding sources were adopted during the meeting.
