Maupin Council accepts Rhoades resignation, appoints Randy Bechtol and Kathy Peck

The Maupin City Council on July 23 accepted the resignation of Councilor Rhoades and declared a vacant seat before moving to fill it by appointment. Councilor Shelby Dumire moved to appoint Randy Bechtol to the seat with a term expiring December 2026; Councilor Mike Foreaker seconded and the motion passed unanimously, 5-0. Recorder Christine Wolfe administered the oath of office to Bechtol and he was seated at the council table.
Councilor Dumire then moved to appoint Kathy Peck to the other vacancy with a term ending December 2028; Councilor Matthias Kesler seconded and that motion also passed unanimously, 5-0. Recorder Wolfe said Peck's oath of office will be performed before the next council meeting. Attorney Ruben Cleaveland advised the council that appointments must be made by name because the two vacancies have different term expirations.
