Maupin to receive $1.5 million for water improvements

The City of Maupin will receive $1.5 million in state funding for water improvements, City Manager Nick Smith said after Calvin Bennett, a representative from Rep. Greg Smith’s office, announced the award at the council meeting on June 25.
“I’m so very excited to share with you the City of Maupin will receive $1.5 million dollars in funding for water improvements,” Bennett said. Council members and residents in attendance thanked Representative Smith and Bennett for the support. Mayor Carol Beatty and Manager Nick Smith were singled out for their work on the funding request.
Council consented to the announcement as part of the opening agenda; the funding was described as targeted to the city’s upper reservoir. Bennett told the council the appropriation was expected to pass both legislative chambers and be signed by the governor the following week, after which city staff can begin project planning and grant administration steps.
