PBOT explains phased approach to Burnside corridor work after bridge funding fell through

Gabe Graff explained phase one focuses on West Burnside between 15th and 20th where prior corner accessibility investments mean less additional work is required and paving there "buys us time to continue to look at the rest of the corridor." PBOT framed the approach as three phases over three years to allow iterative community input and additional analysis for later phases. Staff acknowledged sidewalks are narrow in portions of the corridor and that safety and circulation challenges will require further study and public engagement.
Next steps: PBOT agreed to provide the committee and affected council offices with more detailed phasing rationale and analysis so members can respond to constituent concerns; the bureau will also consider alternative funding and reimagining options for the corridor as part of continued outreach.
