PBOT earmarks $2.9M for Vision Zero and $2.9M for sidewalks in first year of TUF safety funding

PBOT presented safety allocations within the TUF's 25% safety bucket: $2.9 million for Vision Zero activities (including safety analysis, project identification, community engagement and capital improvements) and $2.9 million for SIP sidewalk or alternative-pathway projects focused on project readiness and early deliverables in Districts 1 and 4.
"In the Vision 0 category, we've got $2,900,000 in this 1st fiscal year focused on both programmatic work and capital improvements," Gabe Graff said, adding that the work will be data driven and focus on the high-crash network. PBOT said it will seek to leverage maintenance work to add low-cost safety treatments (for example, installing reflective backplates or pedestrian head starts while crews are on site).
Project selection and oversight: staff said Vision Zero project selection is led by PBOT's Vision Zero team and will be coordinated with the Fixing Our Streets oversight committee; PBOT also plans dashboards so the public can see where dollars are invested and the outcomes produced.
Next steps: PBOT will publish lists of SIP projects and solicit community feedback at February open houses and through continued engagement ahead of implementation.
