Bob Grewe, Executive Director of the Daviess County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC), presented a packet summarizing DCEDC activities, including a CSX designation for a select site and purchase of a shell building undergoing expansion. Grewe said the DCEDC submitted two eligible census tracts in Washington for Opportunity Zone consideration and described business retention/expansion efforts such as Odon Locker tax abatements, Wagler Custom Homes activity in Elnora, and a project by Olon.
Grewe noted infrastructure challenges remain, including work near the Elnora exit at State Road 58 and I-69, and described local facade improvement programs in Plainville and North Daviess supported by public input. He also relayed public feedback for a bike-and-pedestrian plan that included community interest in a path from Washington to the Walmart and other walking/biking improvements; the grant condition requires completion of the plan by September.
