The Deuel County Board of Equalization reviewed and approved multiple tax-list corrections presented by County Assessor Michele Bartlett on July 21, 2026. The packet listed many parcel adjustments to building values, with the transcript showing aggregated figures in the listing. The Board approved the corrections by motion.
The Board then considered individual valuation protests (cases #2026-01 through #2026-08). For several protests where owners requested returns to 2025 valuation citing limited moisture/drought, Assessor Bartlett recommended no change after referencing a sales study showing 48 sales during the study period (30 for dry land) with sale prices ranging from $827 to $2,674 per acre. The Board accepted the Assessor’s recommendation and denied relief in those drought-based protests. In one case where the house had a caved-in basement and was deemed structurally hazardous, the Assessor recommended changing the valuation to 'salvage' at $1.45 per sq. ft. and the Board approved that reduction.
