County cancels School Guard 911 contract; adopts lower-cost alternative that alerts law enforcement, EMS and fire

Julie Riker of Daviess County Central Dispatch told commissioners the county had been paying a little more than $14,000 per year for the School Guard 911 service. She said dispatch identified an alternative that would use existing county systems to provide not only law enforcement alerting but also county-wide EMS and fire notifications for schools and large events, at a cost of roughly $30 per year.
Grant Swartzentruber, the county attorney, sent a cancellation letter terminating the School Guard 911 contract effective June 30. Commissioners authorized the cancellation unanimously. Riker said the new approach could be used for schools and other large-event alerting to coordinate responses across multiple emergency services.
