Union City council authorizes ARPA spending for stormwater repairs, approves personnel and equipment moves

At its Oct. 7 meeting the Union City Borough Council approved using $39,060.20 of ARPA funds for stormwater repairs in Municipal Lot #1 and Hogan’s Alley, approved several personnel actions in the police department, and retroactively authorized a $5,000 ATV purchase.
Union City Borough Council on Oct. 7 approved using $39,060.20 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to cover stormwater repairs in Municipal Lot #1 and to close a catch basin in Hogan’s Alley. Borough Manager Cindy Wells told council the ARPA account totaled $194,413 and that $160,000 had already been designated toward the Willow Street Bridge, with $25,000 of that already spent.
Council also handled multiple personnel and equipment items. The council accepted the resignation of part-time Officer Rick Skonieczka effective no later than Sept. 30, 2024, authorized background checks for two candidates from the Civil Service certified list and permission to hire two part-time officers, and retroactively approved the purchase of a 2021 CF Moto CForce 600 ATV with plow in the amount of $5,000 to be funded from the Capital Equipment fund. After an executive session the council approved a police contract for Zackery Shelly.
