Union City council approves CDBG application to aid stormwater repairs at Municipal Lot #1

Union City Borough Council voted Sept. 16, 2024 to submit an application to Erie County for Community Development Block Grant funds of up to $100,000 to cover part of stormwater repairs in Municipal Lot #1. The repairs follow discovery of sinkholes; Mansfield will fill the sinkhole, replace about 10 feet of pipe and install a new catch basin before smoke and dye testing is conducted.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips said the borough is awaiting paving estimates from JT Patching and Paving and Cross Paving for the lot and the catch basin area in Municipal Lot #2, and that business owners and the Union City Volunteer Fire Department will be notified before smoke testing. The motion to approve submitting the CDBG application was moved by Councilor Steadman, seconded by Councilor Osborn and carried unanimously (Yes: Cross, Osborn, Steadman, Kerns).
