Clisa, the district's assistant director of nutrition services, said registration is optional but encouraged and explained the rural-designation rules that determine which pickup sites the district can operate. "Our summer food service program launches on Monday, June 29," she said, and explained the Thursday pickups provide families with meals for Friday through Sunday. District staff and council members noted strong initial demand: the presenter said "we had many, many families already sign up in the 1st 24 hours," a sign the need exists in the region.
