Recycling revenue improves but tonnage slips; hauling and disposal bids could raise costs

Paul (speaker 9) gave a detailed update on landfill operations and recycling revenue, noting changes in tonnage and pricing that affect net revenue.
"We're at $68 a ton," Paul said when discussing single-stream tipping fees. He reported significant increases in cardboard volume (315 tons at $75/ton in a recent month and year-to-date cardboard up to roughly 1,000 tons) and said the county received roughly $13,000 from a partner (Hudson Valor) last July. He said year-to-date revenue appears down about $250,000 while tonnage has fallen, and estimated that recent price increases and reduced spending combined to yield a positive net impact between about $500,000 and $750,000.
Paul also said bids for loading, hauling and disposal came in with multiple bidders; he is meeting with staff and vendor contacts to vet options and expects modest price increases tied to fuel. "I think the prices are probably gonna increase... I'm thinking with fuel right now, we're at $105... the best combination I've seen where 1 person can handle all of it is at a $110," he said.
Staff said they will follow up with further vetting of bids and present recommendations to the committee in a later meeting.
