Sammamish City Council unanimously authorized the interim city manager to execute a memorandum of understanding that extends the current collective bargaining agreement with AFSCME Local 1425 through Dec. 31, 2027. The council’s action came after staff and union representatives described a negotiated short‑term extension as a way to buy time while the city addresses fiscal and leadership transitions.
Mark Baird, the city’s administrative services director, told the council the parties reached a tentative agreement and the union ratified the extension. "The parties reached a tentative agreement on a short‑term extension that extends the current agreement until the end of 2027," he said, and thanked both negotiating teams for their work. Darcy Donovan, identified in the meeting packet as the union president, and union representative Matt Wood each expressed appreciation for the collaborative process.
Council member Pamela Stewart moved to direct the interim city manager to execute the MOU; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote of 7–0. Mayor Josh Amato thanked the union and staff for their efforts and said the agreement provides stability while the city works through staffing and fiscal issues.
The council’s vote directed the manager to execute the MOU; staff did not report any implementation steps beyond execution at the meeting and said no final policy changes were adopted outside the agreement extension.
