County clerk urges CDL drivers to file medical certificates locally; announces passport event

County Clerk Russell briefed the committee on recurring problems that lead to commercial driver's licenses being downgraded. Russell said medical certificates for CDL holders sometimes fail to arrive in Albany when submitted by third parties and recommended drivers come to the county office to file their medical certificate themselves to ensure it is recorded.
"If they don't have that on your record, you will be downgraded," Russell said, warning that losing a commercial designation can remove a driver's ability to operate professionally. He also highlighted frequent insurance lapses that can lead to vehicle impoundment and misdemeanor charges if unresolved. Russell said the county has introduced a faster "plug and play" mobile unit to speed in-person services, and announced a passport event on Aug. 24 and a notary test at the Elks in two weeks.
