Stand Down and Veterans Festival set for Sept. 27 at SCCC; VA services, 30+ vendors expected

Howie, a commander with AMVETS Post 50, told the Sullivan County Veterans Committee the organization is planning a Veterans Festival and Stand Down for Sept. 27 at Sullivan County Community College’s Paul Gary Fieldhouse.
"It'll be from 11:00 to 3PM at the Paul Gary Fieldhouse," Howie said, and he added organizers expect about 30 to 35 vendors, including VA medical staff. He also said musician Derek Stoner from Nashville is scheduled to perform and that organizers are doing outreach to encourage a strong turnout.
Committee members asked for confirmation of the time and location; Howie reiterated the schedule and said the college has rented space for the event. The committee discussed sharing the event’s resource list and promotional materials with local outreach groups so volunteers and partner organizations can steer veterans to the Stand Down’s services.
Organizers asked committee members and volunteers to help staff the event and to publicize it among local veteran networks. The committee did not take a formal vote related to the event during the meeting. The next steps include finalizing vendor lists and distribution of the event’s printed resource lists to partner groups.
