Maupin council asks Planning Commission to draft dark-sky lighting ordinance

Public commenters and multiple councilors urged the council to inventory streetlights, dim or remove unnecessary fixtures, educate residents about yard and flood lights, and consider business or event opportunities tied to stargazing. Planner Jamie Crawford noted the city can model rules on nearby Antelope’s program and that the Planning Commission can craft the technical ordinance language for council review.
