Board members on June 2 approved a $435,451 purchase of a SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system from Vipower Services for the city’s power plant. Power Plant Superintendent Drew Miller explained that the existing SCADA software has not been supported for about 10 years, will not run on modern platforms, and is required for visibility into distribution breakers, load and remote operations; he said, "the scada system is not a luxury, it is a necessity."
