Auditor Geralyn Sherman reported that the Canistota City Council voted to appropriate its share of a $50,000 pool for county EMS but said it would withdraw if other cities decline to contribute. Brad (BJ) Stiefvater Jr., representing McCook County EMS, presented a signed agreement and said he “won’t work with 6 entities to get his funding,” expressing a preference for a single agreement model.
Commissioner Dean Koch said he had spoken with ambulance services in Sioux Falls and that one firm, Paramedics Plus, was willing to meet with Stiefvater to discuss business options. States Attorney Mike Fink told the board the county would not enter into contracts with the cities. The discussion concluded without formal action, and the Provisional Budget hearing ended with direction for follow-up as needed.
The meeting’s claims and appropriation listings also showed the county’s scheduled ambulance appropriations: City of Bridgewater appropriation of $3,866.67 and McCook County EMS appropriation of $13,831.82 among general-fund claims approved that day.
