County files grant to update comprehensive plan; first update since 2005, commissioner says

Heather (Commissioner) told the legislature the county successfully filed a consolidated funding application seeking funds to update the Sullivan County comprehensive plan, which she said "hasn't been done since 2005." She credited planners, Grants Administration and supporting staff for completing the application on a tight timeline.
"It was a big lift, but they got there, and they did it with, like, 24 hours to spare," Heather said, thanking planners and Grants Administration staff. The county also helped the village of Bloomingburg prepare a municipal update application and included language to link municipal and county planning efforts for state reviewers.
Heather said the county will attach a 2024 benchmarking report to next month's report and post it on the Sullivan County website when reviewed. The update effort is intended to align local planning documents and support coordinated land-use and revitalization work.
