Office for the Aging reports farmers-market coupons, home visits and rising transit service

Laura, a representative of the county Office for the Aging, told the legislature staff had distributed 616 of 2,000 farmers-market coupons, which are available until Sept. 30 and must be used by November. She asked legislators to refer constituents who might qualify and described coordinated outreach at farmers markets and senior centers.
"They're available until September 30 and have to be used by November," Laura said. She reported 14 home visits in June for assessments and assistance; staff helped residents complete 24 applications for SNAP, Medicaid and the Medicare Savings Program. Laura also said transit staff provided veteran and senior medical rides and delivered 604 meals to homebound seniors in June.
The Office for the Aging is promoting exercise programs (including Tai Chi for arthritis and a bone-building class) and a partnership with RUPCO for emergency home repairs to help income-eligible seniors remain independent. Laura encouraged legislators to publicize a volunteer luncheon on Sept. 16 at Bethel Woods and to refer constituents to the office for help.
