Treasurer: Sullivan County sales-tax gains remain but cannabis reporting has caused allocation headaches

County Treasurer Nancy Buck briefed the Legislature on recent revenue trends and internal staffing. She said the county's highest sales-tax revenue over the past 12 months has come from building-related activity and noted that online sales were a top source during the COVID period.
Buck also described ongoing difficulties matching cannabis-related tax receipts to the correct towns, saying the state's reporting sometimes collapses multiple local businesses into a single entry or omits a town, which forces county staff to work with the state for corrected details. "The cannabis has been a nightmare for Shannon in the office because she knows that there's more than 1 business in a town, and then it'll only say it's 1 business," Buck said.
Buck thanked staff and described the county's intern program, explaining that interns are rotated through offices and sometimes assist with treasurer's-office projects. She encouraged questions on the audit materials and invited legislators to contact her with follow-ups.
