Mobile library will issue library cards at schools and allow holds pickup

Library staff said the mobile library will provide library-card registration at school visits and will allow patrons (including teachers) to pick up holds at those stops. To protect student privacy and campus rules, the website's public calendar will list school visits simply as 'school stop' with times rather than naming specific schools, staff said.

The staff member said the district will send ParentSquare messages to parents with links to English and Spanish sign-up forms so staff can confirm registrations at the school visit and later mail the physical card to the parent. "When we go to the school, we'll be able to look that kid up and see if their parent did sign them up and then issue them a physical library card at the schools," the staff member said. The board discussed whether children will need to bring cards for subsequent checkouts and staff said they expect to be flexible while learning how many students carry cards to school.
