Council Approves QuikTrip Minor Subdivision, Site Plan and Special Use Permit

The Dacono City Council on June 8 unanimously approved Resolution 26-30, authorizing a minor subdivision plat, site plan and special use permit for a proposed QuikTrip at the site presented by Kimley Horn. Associate Planner John Michael Lawler summarized staff review and said the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will work with the developer on signal timing.
During council questions, Lawler said CDOT requested the two access points be located farther north to preserve intersection spacing and declined to allow a left-turn lane at the southern access; he also said signage on the site will be below the city's height limit and that visibility for the second lot will be from the highway. Councilmember Drew Martinez raised concerns about diverted traffic using the frontage road during highway accidents; Lawler said CDOT retains the right to re-evaluate access if safety issues occur. Councilmember Bob Vince made the motion to approve; the vote was unanimous.
