Madelia Health presents case for maintaining local emergency and clinic services
Summary

Gabe Walls, president and CEO of Madelia Health, described the hospital as a 25-bed critical-access facility with the ability to staff safely at roughly six inpatients but an average daily census near three. He said the hospital provides 24/7 emergency-department coverage and operates clinics in Madelia, Saint James and Lake Crystal.
Walls stressed the local role of the hospital for emergency transport and for keeping primary care close to residents. He said maintaining local outpatient, swing-bed, and rehabilitation services helps avoid transfers to larger regional centers and preserves timely ambulance and ED response for nearby towns.
