City council adopts temporary moratorium on data centers

The Shepherdsville City Council voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance 026024, a temporary moratorium on the establishment, expansion, or construction of data centers inside the city.
Chair said the moratorium makes the city’s position official while it awaits the county’s joint zoning regulations and pledged the council would review the county guidance and “add anything to it” if the county standards are not strict enough. Catherine read the ordinance text, which defines data centers and sets the moratorium to remain in effect until the city evaluates the forthcoming joint regulations.
The motion to approve passed on a voice and roll-call vote. Council members recorded their votes during the roll call: Rob (yes), Bonnie (yes), Brad (yes), Faith (yes), Jennifer (yes). The ordinance goes on record and will remain in effect until the council reviews and acts on the county’s guidance.
