The board approved a competitively bid contract for phase 1 of district vestibule security upgrades with a contract price as written of $163,979 and authority for staff to execute reasonable change orders during construction. CFO Gary Bennett said the procurement piggybacked on a TriMet RFP to preserve competitive pricing.
Board members emphasized that the work is funded from capital-projects funds and will not reduce classroom staffing. The motion to approve the contract was moved, seconded and carried on a 4-0 vote. "This is a much needed upgrade that we've needed for several years," one board member said during discussion.
Administration said security experts advised limiting public detail about the upgrades and that a phase 2 contract will be presented for approval at a later meeting.
