Recreation staff seek year-round coordinator as programs and events expand

Recreation director Reese and events manager Tricia described the increasing scale of community programs and special events (Dragon Art Fair, farmer's market, 23–24 large events annually and hundreds of program offerings). Tricia noted the department ran roughly 283 programs in 2025 and said volunteer coordination, sponsorship fulfillment and vendor management require sustained year-round staff effort.
To address workload and institutional knowledge gaps the department proposed a year-round part-time recreation coordinator. Tricia said the department calculated about 280 additional staff hours between March and July and estimated the incremental cost at roughly $13,300 (to be paid from Fund 230 and anticipated hotel-tax revenue reallocation); proposed pay range was $20–$25 per hour. Reese and Tricia argued the role would improve office continuity, reduce seasonal overtime and permit better program administration and vendor follow-up.
Trustees asked about revenue trends and facility limitations. Staff reported field rental revenues and tournament demand are strong at the Quick Trip Athletic Complex and stressed continuing negotiations with the school district and other partners for indoor facility access. The board did not take a hiring vote at the meeting; the request will be evaluated as part of the broader budget.
