Rye commission approves school-area mosquito spraying after contractor update

Sarah MacGregor, of Dragon Mosquito Control, told the Rye Mosquito Control Commission that "Dragon just finished spraying the saltmarshes" and that Parsons Field was sprayed for the Fourth of July celebration. She said the rec area was sprayed on July 8 and that Dragon has begun treating catch basins.
MacGregor reported, "There have been no positive disease test results in Rye thus far this season," and said the closest positive detection was in Exeter for Jamestown Canyon Virus. She noted that Rye schools begin classes on August 31 and that spraying is customarily done the week before school starts, and recommended the commission approve school spraying at this meeting to avoid a lapse if the commission does not meet in August. Chair Tim Sanborn moved to approve the spraying at the schools for the beginning of the school season; Commissioner James Farrelly seconded and the motion passed with "all in favor." The commission noted the spraying is budgeted and performed annually.
The commission set its next meeting for Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 5:00 p.m. at Rye Town Hall.
